Renewables Project helps to tackle fuel poverty
31st October 2011
Anglian Building Products has recently completed two pilot renewables projects on social housing properties.
Undertaking the works on opposite sides of the country in Ipswich and Barnstaple, solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays, air source heat pumps and new central heating systems were installed to both properties.
Both properties selected were ‘off the gas' grid and had old electric storage heaters which generated costly heating bills.

The PV panels were fitted onto the roofs in southerly position and connected to an AC/DC invertor and total generation meter. The installation of the new central heating systems ensures that the residents receive a significant reduction on their annual fuel bills. This will be due to the free electricity supplied by the solar panels combined with the efficiency of the heat pump which typically multiples the energy generation four-fold.

'These are two great installations to demonstrate the powerful combination of installing PV and air source heat pumps in these situations said Renewables Director, Stephen Preece. The installations went exactly to plan and with minimal disruption.’

'I am extremely happy with the work Anglian has delivered. I have very specific needs which have been catered for and I feel confident that the new heating system will dramatically improve my living conditions.’ Ipswich resident.
