Anglian Building Products is increasingly aware of its corporate social responsibilities and in particular the need for a positive approach towards waste management.
Already committed to the PVC-u industry’s Vinyl 2010 initiative, Anglian has further invested in an expanded deconstruction factory, doubling its workforce.
No more sending first generation PVC-u windows to landfill sites. Almost every element is utilised: the glass used in the production of roof insulation; the first-generation PVC-u is extruded by Anglian into products such as cavity closer sections, and the reinforcement and hardware processed by a local waste management specialist partner.
With 190,000 tonnes of waste produced from the 6.8 million window units replaced annually in the industry, Anglian is leading the industry with their closed loop recycling system.
BBC News recently featured a review of the window industry, interviewing representatives from both Anglian and WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) at Anglian’s deconstruction factory.
" viable and cost-effective service, waste material is collected from sites by our inhouse distribution fleet on otherwise empty return trips, the windows are deconstructed and materials segregated in a safe, controlled factory environment at our Norwich site."
Paul Kellett, Technical Director, Anglian Windows
WRAP’S Materials Sector Manager for Glass Andy Dawes comments “The approach taken by Anglian is one we would like to see more installation companies looking at. The benefit of such a scheme works both ways, saving on escalating disposal costs and finding a new use for material that would otherwise end up in landfill.”
Environmental commitments are becoming a significant part of all organisations? strategies to demonstrate Corporate Social Responsibility. Our large-scale recycling facilities offer the opportunity to quickly implement a key strategy, without any downside risk and with zero investment.
