Croydon support local women with the opportunity to address gender issues and equality

International Women’s Day 2020 is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality – a topic high on the agenda within the construction industry and housing sector.

On Wednesday 11th March Anglian Building Products (ABP) joined Croydon Council to actively challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions and celebrate women’s achievements.
An evening event held at Box Park, welcomed local residents of the Croydon area to listen to inspirational female speakers talking about their own experience of gender issues and equality, and was an opportunity to celebrate successful women in the community.

Jade Scott, Resident Liaison Officer from Anglian Building Products took to the stage to talk about her own personal story. From the challenges of being a young single parent, being a role model to her son, and her experience as a woman in the construction industry.

Jade commented, “I was very nervous at first going into construction as I expected it to be an all-male force, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out there are a lot of women in this industry, some of them running the show the in-fact! The world of construction is extremely wide, and there is no reason why any woman should not pursue a job as a plumber, electrician, carpenter or builder. The opportunities are out there, and it is important for women to realise that any industry and any position is open to them!”

Anglian Building Products is proud to have been able to sponsor the event, giving ABP and the Construction Industry the opportunity to champion women of all backgrounds who dare to innovate, lead and uplift others towards a more equal and inclusive workplace.
